[journey] Discovery

The open fields were a welcome change from the garage Jay spent most of his time in. The first weeks after he’d taken over, he’d worked, slept and woke up to work again, but he’d realised he couldn’t keep that up. He’d missed his friends and didn’t want to end up like his father: physically unable to work because of what he’d put his body through for all those years. Now he was still looking for a balance, but managing better.

Needing a break, he’d taken his pokémon to Tranquil Hollow. He’d heard of a new pokémon that had been sighted here and was curious to see it for real. “Let me know if you see one,” he told Torch who was coming towards him. The infernape kept running around, enjoying the freedom but always making sure to return to his trainer and not stray too far. Meanwhile his emolga sat on his shoulder, looking out over the flowers from her high perch.

He’d heard of these newly discovered pokémon on chatter. Shibbles: tiny dual electric fairy types that had been sighted somewhere around here. Some people’d already put pictures of them online. Now there was only hoping that he was lucky enough to encounter one today.

So far there were no shibbles. Not that Jason had expected to find them that easily. If they’d remained undiscovered until now, they wouldn’t just run into him, at least he didn’t think they would.

He was walking among the flowers, keeping his eyes open for Shibbles, but all he noticed were the plants moving in the wind. Torch, however, did seem to have discovered something interesting among a few bushes further up. Jason walked towards the infernape. Meanwhile he tried to see if he could notice anything moving among the bushes.

Once he was at the spot Torch was interested in, he quietly inspected the place so as not to scare any pokémon that might be hiding nearby.

The place Torch was interested in had a lot of spots where small pokémon could easily hide away and so Jason stepped closer, watching out for any shibbles. Even though he tried to be quiet, he’d never been great at that and the noise he made, started a pokémon, making it flee towards one of the trees to his right.

But once the creature was at the tree it stopped. “I didn’t mean to startle you,” Jason spoke softly and held up his hands, trying to set it at ease. “Torch and I just wanted to say hey.” Hopefully his words would convince the pokémon that he wasn’t a threat.

The pokémon was still hidden from him, but Jay could feel its eyes on him. He came closer, now able to see light flashing through its tail, and tried to set the pokémon at ease. His words were the right ones. The shibble now fully came into view, revealing its colouring was like nothing Jay’d seen on pictures online. “Are you a shibble?” he asked out loud, not expecting an actual answer.

As Jay observed the pokémon, Torch came closer to the small creature and Sandy landed a few metres behind him. Taking the lead, Torch tried to communicate to the shibble that he wanted to play with him. Sandy, meanwhile, curiously looked at the strange pokémon.

Remembering he had some pokémon food with him, Jay grabbled in his bag and took some out, letting it rest on the palm of his hand for the shibble to see. “Could you come closer? These are for you.” he spoke to the pokémon, hoping it would see that he meant no harm and come close enough for him to see it up close.
