The resistance

Vincze was one of those weird people who actually enjoyed going to school. He never missed class and he actively parttook in them.It was a perfectly mundane life, just the way he wanted it to be. There would come a time when he had to go home, take on all his duties again, but it was still far away.

With his phone in his hands, he walked around with no specific destination in mind. Maybe he should grab a coffee and something to eat. For now he was swiping on charm, not paying attention to his surroundings. He was so focused that he did not notice there was something in front of him. Vincze tripped over some tail and his phone went flying in the air. Luckily he managed not to fall himself.

“No, no, no,” he muttered as he saw his phone crashing down on the stones. A broken phone was no big deal, but he liked that little device.

Vincze ignored his phone for a moment when the large pokémon next to him started moving. Only when he was certain the thing would not burn or eat him alive, did he relax a bit. There was someone else with the creature as well, a young man. “I’m so sorry to disturb you two,” Vincze apologized with his hands raised a bit. He looked like he’d just woken up from a deep slumber. Yeah, Vincze also wouldn’t be too happy if someone woke him up early.

The other mentioned his phone and Vincze hurried towards where the device now lay. “Sure hope not,” he muttered before picking it up. The back was fine but the front— he groaned when he saw the huge crack going from one side of his phone to the other. “It's a little bit broken, nothing too serious.” It did not matter how hard he tried, he could not hide the disappointment in his voice. No, it was pretty bad. There were all kinds of smaller cracks leading away from the main one. Just his luck.

A broken phone was no problem. If he wanted he could get it fixed or even buy a new one. That was no problem for him, although that was not what Vincze would do. It was not too bad. He could live with a crack in his screen. Afterall, so many people walked around with a broken phone.

Vincze looked at the other person. “It’s just a scratch, probably does not even need fixing,” he said with the same friendly smile as he waved it away. Over time he would learn to live with the giant crack in his screen.

But then the other person asked if it was their fault. In a way he could hold them responsible, but in the end it was his own fault. Was it not? “Oh, no, absolutely not. It’s my fault for not looking where I was going,” Vincze laughed before looking down at his phone once more. And even if it was their fault, he probably would’ve taken the blame anyway. “No need to feel guilty,” he added as he quickly put his phone away before the other would notice it was more than a scratch.

Vincze put away his phone with a deep sigh. Out of sight, out of mind. Maybe next year he will buy a new one. Until then this would do. With a smile he turned towards the other, only now really looking at him. “Really, don’t worry. There are worse things than a slightly broken screen.” It was the least of his problems. The red hair of the young man almost reminded him of someone als. Another very handsome man, but it was not him. Yet, he was certain he knew him from somewhere.

A soft frown appeared and he slightly tilted his head to the side. “Aren’t you— Prince Archibald? Or do you look a lot like him, because the resemblance is striking.” Vincze had never seen the man in person, but in this time and age it was not that hard to find pictures online. His teachers always made sure he knew who the important people in the world were, and this person might be one of them.
