The damn hospital. Ruìsāng wouldn't be caught dead there. While he acknowledged the girl's likely good intentions, remorse didn't touch him as he turned the corner, distancing himself rom her. Struggling, he nearly collided with the wall, desperate to escape any well-meaning interference.

Each step sent agony through his body, fatigue and dizziness threatening to halt his escape. The world began to blur at the edges, vision flickering intermittently. His rhythmic footsteps synced with his throbbing heartbeat, each breath a laborious struggle in the thick air.

The world blurred, a disorienting haze, simultaneously too distant and oppressively close. Walls converged, tightening like a vise. And finally, a sudden loss of balance sent him sprawling to the ground.

Instinctively, he reached out, his hands making a desperate attempt to break the fall. The impact jarred through his body, radiating a searing pain from his right hand. His arm, already weakened and wounded, protested with a surge of agony as he crumpled to the ground. Clutching his injured arm, he felt the intensity of the pain magnify.

Pushing himself away from the ground, his back against the wall, he realised the Pokéball had fallen from his pocket. Reaching out, he summoned Lìeyàn, who appeared in astonishment. Tears welled in the Mawile's eyes as she stood before him, uncertain of what to do.

His chest was nearly bare, his shirt torn to shreds both front and back, exposing claw marks that traced a path from collarbone to heart. Four dark, dot-like scars encircled his heart, exuding an eerie aura as if carrying a dark curse. His right hand was not merely scratched but torn and mangled, blood oozing from it.

Attempting to push himself up, he struggled to find the strength, clinging desperately to the wall to stay upright. The desperate cries of his Mawile urged him to take action, or he'd die here.

There was one person he could call.

He called Victor with difficulty using his left hand while bracing himself with his left elbow. Somewhere during the call, he sank to the ground again, using Mawile's jaw to keep his arm up and apply pressure as instructed. Trying to answer questions in short, steady breaths, his vision blurred, and he felt on the verge of either vomiting or falling asleep as soon as he could stop talking.

Victor persisted with questions, and as he neared, Ruìsāng closed the call and dropped his phone. Leaning his weight against Mawile, he slowly sank away, blood dripping from her jaws as if she were the one who had harmed him.

Fuck.

He could strangle Sang. Ending the phone call was the worst thing he could've done. But this wasn't a time to get frustrated. From what Victor could make from the phone call, Sang was in a horrible state and most likely unconscious now.

Victor looked on his phone to check that he was still going the right way. He must have looked crazy to anyone who saw him running through the street with a bag that couldn't be closed with how stuffed it was, amongst others a sleeve and part of a stethoscope sticking out. He'd stuffed the thing with some clean clothes and all the medical and non-medical equipment he might need. He’d left in such a hurry that he’d just grabbed anything he could find at the time.

Victor turned the corner into the street where Sang was supposed to be and stopped once he saw the sight in front of him. The man lay unconscious in the alley. His shirt was shredded which made it easy to see the deep gashes on his chest, his arm lay in a mawile’s mouth, blood dripping on the ground. Was she the one who’d harmed him?

Carefully walking closer, Victor kept his eye on the pokémon. It didn’t make sense. She held Sang’s arm in her mouth, but didn’t bite. Wouldn’t she be devouring her victim right about now if she was the one who’d attacked him?

Whatever the intentions of the pokémon were, Victor needed to get to Sang to tend to his wounds. “I need you to step away from him,” he said confidently and firmly, though he kept enough distance that the pokémon couldn’t bite him too easily. He hoped he sounded sure enough of himself to either scare the pokémon away if she was the attacker or at least get it to get out of the way. Of course, if it was the one who’d attacked Sang, he doubted it would go away so easily.

In the meantime, Edgar had landed on Victor’s shoulder and was now keeping track of the mawile, ready to defend his trainer if she attacked, but Victor was also sure the murkrow wouldn’t be able to do much if she’d done all this to Sang. Intently, he waited for the mawile’s reaction. This couldn’t take much longer or he would be too late to help Sang.

As the adrenaline dissipated, Ruìsāng felt the true weight of his injuries. The initial surge of energy that had masked the pain was fading, leaving behind a persistent, throbbing ache. Each heartbeat sent shooting waves of pain through his right hand. Fatigue, both physical and mental, settled in like a heavy fog.

After dropping the phone, he became acutely aware of the cold sweat on his forehead. His vision wavered at the edges, and a cold shiver ran down his spine. The Mawile, still by his side, looked up at him with concern. His breaths, once hurried, became measured. Then, the world faded.

Tears welled in the pink eyes of the Mawile as she gazed up at a stranger. Her jaws were still clamped tight against her owner's arm, a dutiful effort to keep it elevated, as she had understood. Keep him alive. Keep him still. She would stand there until she could no longer stand if he asked it of her.

That's why the request of a stranger nearly triggered a furious attack. The words were foreign to her—Ruìsāng always spoke in a language others did not. Still, she understood. She carefully lowered the blonde man's arm, stepping away from him, pink eyes fixated on the stranger. One wrong move, and she would attack, but for now, she remained helpless without him.

For a moment, Victor thought he was done for--the pokémon would attack him and he’d be unable to win the fight--, but then the mawile stepped away. Victor immediately took the opening and rushed to Sang. Now he was closer, he could see the tears in the mawile’s eyes. There was no way she was the one who’d attacked Sang, he now had definitive proof of that.

Victor started by checking Sang’s pulls and breathing and assessing his injuries. His arm wasn’t just wounded, it had been so torn up that you could barely see the limb under all the blood. From this distance, Victor could also see how the claw marks on Sang’s chest lead to four dark scars around his heart. What had the other gotten himself into?

First, Victor turned Sang on his side, moving his head a bit so he could breathe better. Then, he took off his coat and lay it over Sang. “Edgar,” He turned to his pokémon. “Keep him warm.” The murkrow cawed at his trainer before he nestled himself against Sang. The man felt cold, they needed to warm him up, that was more important than Edgar’s dislike of getting close to people right now.

Next Victor took a clean cloth doused with a hemostatic agent and pressed it against the man’s arm. He took a moment to turn to the mawile while he kept pressure on Sang’s arm. “You did good.” The way the pokémon had held the man’s arm in her mouth had already helped to slow down the bleeding a bit; Victor could see that was what she’d been doing now.

Every time the cloth he pressed against Sang’s arm bled through, Victor added more until the bleeding stopped enough that he could clean the wounds and bandage the arm up. In the meantime he kept an eye on Sang. The other was still breathing and his heart rate was normal given the circumstances, but Victor watched out for any signs that the other was getting worse or waking up.

Ruìsāng SūBlessed by ????

For the first twelve years of his life, Ruìsāng had been powerless. He kept his head low and endured every physical and mental blow that came his way. Nodding obediently, uttering ‘yes sir’ when required—those actions did little to change his circumstances. So, he learned to fight. He acquired his Mawile because he refused to let anyone hurt him or those close to him again. Today, however, marked the first time he felt like the powerless little boy he used to be. He had crowned himself a king, only to find his crown made of thorns.

Fading in and out of consciousness, Ruìsāng felt a disorienting haze in his mind, intensified by the pain and blood loss. He dimly registered his Mawile holding up his arm, and although she eventually let go, he lacked the strength to respond. Flashes of what was happening flickered in his fragmented awareness.

Unaware of how ghastly he looked, with his own red blood staining his arm and chest, and the addition of black, thick, unnatural blood on his chest and chin. In biting off that finger, he inadvertently made it appear as if the black blood oozed from his mouth.

As he stirred, groaning in pain, Ruìsāng attempted to sit up, only to be met with a spinning world and a pulsating ache coursing through his entire being. “Just… there,” he hissed softly, determined to handle his chest himself, despite the overwhelming weakness that gripped him.

A groan from Sang made it clear the man was waking up. Victor raised his eyebrows. Was Sang seriously trying to get up right now? “You need to lay down until I’m done,” he said while he softly pushed against Sang’s shoulder so the other couldn’t get up. With these wounds, Victor was surprised there was any energy to fight left in the man.

Victor focused back on Sang’s arm. The bleeding had stopped and he could now clean the wounds and bandage them up. He was careful not to hurt Sang too much, but the injury was so great it no doubt was painful. Once the wounds were clean, Victor expertly applied a bandage around Sang’s arm.

Now, the other’s chest was left. Black blood, unlike anything Victor had seen before, had hardened on Sang’s chin and chest. Victor didn’t know what to make from what Sang had told him on the phone earlier, but something about the finger biting must be true. The blood couldn’t be Sang’s so he must’ve bitten whoever had attacked him—and done so successfully Victor inferred from the amount of black blood. He would ask about that later. Ignoring the words from before, Victor reached out towards Sang’s chest so he could treat the wounds there.

Lying down felt like surrendering to vulnerability, which Ruìsāng despised. Every instinct urged him to rise and escape, but the weight of minimal effort pressed him back. A groan, whether born of frustration or pain, escaped him as he reluctantly settled into submission once more.

As the other fucked around with his injured arm, Ruìsāng clenched his jaw against the searing pain, battling to maintain consciousness. His attention wavered, caught between the agony and the need to stay alert, anticipating the arrival of her, the police, an ambulance—anyone.

Victor's hand approached his chest, but Ruìsāng's newly bandaged hand shot out, seizing the man's arm. Pain surged through him at the movement and touch. “No,” he bit out. “She… did something. Don’t touch it,” he hissed, fighting through the agony to articulate his warning. “It’s enough.” He insisted, determined to handle the aftermath himself, somehow.

When Victor reached out to Sang’s chest to treat the wounds there, the other grabbed his arm with his freshly bandaged one. “Don’t you dare use that arm.” Victor looked intently at Sang, telling him as much with his eyes as his words that he needed to let go and let his arm rest.

At Sang’s warning, Victor took a moment to look at the man’s chest again. Four dark scars surrounded his heart—the things Sang must be warning him not to touch. What were they? Just looking at them, Victor could feel they were something dark, like a curse. But that didn’t mean he could just leave Sang like this. “It’s not enough,” Victor made clear. “These wounds still need to be treated.” His eyes softened at his next words. “I’ll make sure to not touch the scars around your heart.” He was the one who needed to take care of Sang, the other shouldn’t be worrying for him.

Victor told him off for using his arm, prompting Ruìsāng to issue a stern warning about avoiding his chest. It seemed straightforward—if Victor refrained from touching his chest, then there was no need for Ruìsāng to cling to his arm. Despite Victor's well-intentioned advice, Ruìsāng staunchly resisted any further intrusion. A boundary was drawn.

Victor asserted that it wasn't enough. However, the subsequent offer elicited a laugh of exasperation from Ruìsāng. “It will have to be enough. I won’t let you. You’ve done enough,” he hissed, leveraging his good hand to push himself back into a sitting position. A sigh escaped him, and he absentmindedly wiped his chin with the back of his hand, as if it would help.

Thanks for coming.” But now, he’d take care of things himself.

The compromise Victor was making sounded reasonable to him, but Sang replied that it would have to be enough. The man was sitting up now, yet it was simple to see that had been no easy feat. There was no way Victor was leaving him alone like this.

But he could also see how Sang was never going to let him get close to those wounds. “Fine,” he snapped. “You can disinfect it yourself.” He stopped trying to reach for the other’s chest and instead grabbed his medical bag and searched in it for a few seconds before he handed Sang a disinfectant dispenser. “Clean your hands thoroughly. Then I’ll tell you what to do next.” If Sang wouldn’t let him get near the wounds, the man would have to clean them himself.

Ruìsāng SūBlessed by ????
Victor's discontent was palpable. Ruìsāng, fully aware of the gravity of his injuries, nonetheless resisted Victor's attempts to approach the area near his chest. The risk was too great; the thought of Victor inadvertently sharing his curse, or worse, succumbing to it, was a gamble Ruìsāng refused to entertain. He would rather tend to his wounds alone, in the privacy of his home.

With a grimace, he glanced at his hands, his thoughts punctuated by a sharp curse. “Fuck, Victor,” he hissed under his breath. The wounds on his chest, though severe, had thankfully stopped bleeding profusely, likely due to the cold that had numbed and temporarily staunched the flow. He reasoned that they could wait until he was safely home. But then there was the issue of his right hand, torn and mangled, leaving him with the daunting prospect of tending to himself single-handedly.

“I can’t deal with this now,” Ruìsāng insisted, his voice a strained whisper, betraying the effort it took to maintain his composure amid the disorienting pain. “Just help me up. I need to get home,” he urged. The alley seemed to sway around him, the world tilting in a disconcerting dance.

Holding out the disinfectant, Victor looked Sang in the eyes. If Sang didn’t want him to touch the wounds, fine, but they couldn’t just leave them like this, ready to get infected. Whatever had made the injuries could’ve left more than a curse.

Victor sighed. “Fine.” He would help Sang get home first; as long as the other realised he wasn’t getting rid of Victor before they’d treated the wounds on his chest. “Where do you live?” Victor asked while he put the disinfectant back in his bag. The wounds had stopped bleeding for now—ice had closed them off—and they didn’t look like they would open up quickly, so Victor deemed it save enough to move the other.

He hooked his arm under Sang’s and over the man’s shoulder. “Tell me when you’re ready,” he said, giving Sang a moment to catch his breath before they stood up.

Ruìsāng SūBlessed by ????
When questioned about his residence, Ruìsāng let out a weary sigh, the sound heavy with fatigue. “Sterling Heights,” he murmured. “It’s not too far.” On a regular day, the distance might have been trivial, but today, weighed down by his blood loss and the lingering effects of everything, it seemed like a journey too daunting. Thankfully, it appeared Victor finally gave up. The thought of finally being able to rest in his own space brought a faint sense of relief.

As Victor's arm hooked under him in a supportive gesture, Ruìsāng involuntarily flinched. Pain flickered across his face, a grimace forming as he fought to suppress a groan. His Mawile watched the interaction with pink eyes that flickered with curiosity and concern. She seemed to be weighing her response, deciding whether to intervene. For the moment, though, she remained a silent observer, her gaze shifting between Ruìsāng and Victor.

Ruìsāng exhaled a deep, exasperated breath. “Yeah, sure, I'm ready,” he groaned, steeling himself for the effort to stand. He pushed upwards, a wave of dizziness threatening his balance. It was Victor's steadying support that kept him from collapsing back to the ground – a fact Ruìsāng would never acknowledge.

Sterling heights. Victor had absolutely no clue where that was. He still didn’t know his way in the city that well, especially the name of residential areas were unfamiliar to him. Despite that, he needed to know the answer for if Sang fell unconscious and he needed to get him home by himself—he could just look up the place on his phone after all and find his way there like that—and he wanted to make sure Sang knew that he wasn’t just leaving him behind. “You’ll have to lead the way.”

Victor tried to support Sang as best as he could without hurting him, but that was impossible, simply moving already made the other flinch. Giving Sang a moment to recover, Victor asked him to let him know when he was ready. Meanwhile, the mawile that had been putting pressure on Sang’s arm when Victor first got to him looked at them intensely; while Victor knew she was just worried for Sang, he couldn't help but imagine her ripping him away from her trainer for hurting him, even if it was involuntarily. A deep sigh sounded from Sang, making Victor focus back on helping the man stand up.

While Sang had been the most infuriating patient up till now, Victor also couldn’t help but admire him for his tenacity. Anyone else would have already passed out by now, but Sang still stood, not very steady for sure, but he did and wouldn’t give up until he’d managed to get home. It was a kind of perseverance that was both a detrimental and an admirable quality.

Victor gave Sang a moment to regain his strength after standing up before they would go further. “Let me know if I’m going too fast,” he said as they started to move towards Sterling Heights. Meanwhile Edgar took the medical bag Victor'd left behind in his claws, flew up and carried it behind them.

Ruìsāng SūBlessed by ????
Just straight ahead, then a right,” Ruìsāng directed, his nod towards the street barely masking his eagerness to reach home. The proximity of his apartment now seemed like a blessing, as each step he took was a battle against exhaustion and pain. The thought of collapsing into his bed, surrendering to unconsciousness, was the only thing propelling him forward.

As he trudged along, Ruìsāng couldn't remember ever feeling pain like this. Bruises and broken bones were familiar territories. Yet, this pain was different; it was an all-consuming agony that seemed to penetrate his very soul. His hand throbbed relentlessly, a fiery pulse that matched the rhythmic ache in his chest. It felt as if his lungs were collapsing, the cold air around him turning each breath into a sharp, painful gasp.

Despite the overwhelming discomfort, Ruìsāng's resolve remained unbroken. He trudged on, his pace torturously slow, reminiscent of an injured snail. His pride wouldn't allow him to voice his struggle or ask Victor to slow down.

Every step was a test of endurance against the searing pain that seemed to echo through his body. But Ruìsāng was no stranger to adversity, so he pushed on, driven by a will that refused to succumb to his physical limitations.

Victor nodded at Sang’s instructions. He wasn’t a fan of letting the man walk in his current state, but he didn’t see another option. It would be impossible to carry Sang all the way to his apartment, plus Victor would most likely hurt the other if he tried to, nor could he call the hospital or someone else more capable of treating Sang—he didn’t even know if anyone would be more capable of caring for the strange wounds on the other’s chest.

Slowly, Victor moved in the direction Sang had pointed him to. He tried to follow the other’s rhythm as much as he could, adjusting his speed when he felt Sang’s breathing change or noticed another small sign of his pain, though he had no idea if he was being helpful since the man didn’t voice his struggles.

Sang had been right, his apartment wasn’t far away, but at the speed they were going, the road seemed almost endless. Victor expected Sang to collapse any moment, but the other didn’t, he kept going. Still, Victor kept an eye out for any signs Sang was pushing himself too far. “Is this it?” Victor checked with Sang once they stood before an apartment complex. He truly hoped this was the right place, he didn’t think Sang could make it much further, even with his willpower.

Ruìsāng SūBlessed by ????
Ruìsāng’s life had been a battle for survival, forged in environments where showing any hint of weakness could have dire consequences. From the cutthroat atmosphere of the orphanages where he learned to fend for himself, to the harsh reality of living with an alcoholic mother, he had mastered the art of self-reliance. Dependence on others was a luxury he couldn’t afford; it was a vulnerability that could lead to downfall. So, he had fought, he had endured, always on his own.

Yeah, this is it,” Ruìsāng grunted in response to Victor’s query about the building. His movements were laborious as he guided them towards the entrance, his fingers unsteady as he fumbled with the keys. Once the door was unlocked, he allowed Lìeyàn to nudge it open further. “Just help me to the first floor. I can manage from there,” he insisted, his voice a mix of gratitude and stubborn independence.

As he contemplated the immediate future, the thought of collapsing onto the floor of his living room, even just for a restorative nap, seemed immensely appealing.

To his relief, they’d arrived at Sang’s apartment complex. Sang showed tremendous perseverance, but Victor was sure he would’ve collapsed if they’d walked any further.

Sang showed the way to the entrance and unlocked the door. Meanwhile, Victor kept a close eye on him to make sure he didn’t do anything that could permanently injure his arm. It was mangled and any more strain on it could damage the muscles even further.

“At least let me make sure you get inside your apartment safely,” Victor said as they made their way up. He wasn’t going to just leave Sang on the first floor. It was very likely the other would collapse and the chance of Sang hurting himself even more during the fall wasn’t a risk Victor was willing to take
