Kaye Mercer
There was a pause, her companion studying her face in a way that Kaye did not like. Djodie nestled herself against her, taking her in her arms and resting her cheek on the top of her head. It felt familiar, reminded her of things she did not want to remember. A sudden anxiety gripping her throat like a vice. She nevertheless chose not to answer, though the decision was already made for her when not long after she heard Djodie’s breathing steadying out. A soundless chuckle escaped, but it faded fast. Alone with her thoughts, her mind began to wander. Settling on unpleasant memories that always arose around this time. Somewhere in the apartment, the distant sound of a clock ticking was heard and she was reminded again of one of the reasons why she never slept here. Well, never slept here alone.

Kaye laid awake for a long time after. Drifting between that place you could not yet call sleep, but not awake either. The one time she did manage to slip into the sweet release of the night, she woke with a start, images flashing behind her eyes for a few moments before she managed to calm down her breathing, instantly checking if Djodie had awoken. She had not. If I had been alone, it would have been worse. Kaye knew. Amongst the memories and raging thoughts of work, her mind often would choose to return to the scene at the couch, the way how Djodie had begged. Then she would think further, of the way how Djodie had screamed her name.

Sleep evaded her still for some time, but come morning she had managed to grab a whole three hours of sleep, awaking to light shining in her face and the clock in the kitchen screaming it was no later than 7 in the morning.

Djodie Archeron

Before she fell asleep, Djodie had noticed the disapproving look in Kaye's eyes when she had asked if everything was allright. Lucky for her, she was too tired to fully notice or act on it.

When Djodie woke up, she was still - or again, maybe - nestled against the woman. Pain was bursting in her head, leaving no doubt about the amount of alcohol she had had the night before. Then the realisation hit her. It had not been a dream. She was really here, next to a woman, in a bed.
Next to a very hot woman, if you will. As she slowly woke up a bit more, the girl streched her body, letting her hand rest on her forehead before looking at Kaye, who was awake already.
"Kaye..." she whispered, a smile on her face. "I thought I'd dreamed." she shyly leaned in, initiating a kiss. Hoping that she still could.

The familiar, uncomfortable sensation now mastering her head made itself known a few moments later. A hangover, albeit a very modest one. She let out a sigh- and all of a sudden became aware of the person she was still holding close. Kaye’s eyes widened as she looked down, the top of Djodie’s head only inches from her lips, draped over her like a cat and deeply resting. Snugly tucked against Kaye’s side with the covers raised to her ears. Fuck.

For a few moments nothing happened as Kaye’s mind was racing. Why hadn’t she left? This wasn’t supposed to happen. Normally she would take the other to their home and after a few hours of bliss, she would slink away in the night so she could be gone come morning. That wasn’t possible now. Not in her own home. You absolute idiot. She thought to herself. Kaye knew somewhere in the back of her head that it wasn’t fair to expect the girl to be gone by morning. A small voice trying to reason with her, before she pushed the voice away. After all, the poor girl had been greener than grass. Kaye had been her first. Her first .. It had been a long time since that had happened. Not since-

Djodie moved in her sleep, sleepy sounds emanating from beneath the blanket as she stretched herself awake. Frozen Kaye looked down on her as Djodie looked up, their eyes met and she saw affection lit up in the other woman’s eyes. In any other circumstance she would have marveled at it and when her name was whispered, a smile formed on Djodie’s lips. Kaye’s mind went blank the moment lips touched her own and for a long second, she remained that way before her mind threw all caution and reason overboard. It was too familiar. It was too much.

She pulled away. “I-” Her voice trailed off. This all did not go according to plan, and she felt like screaming. She wanted to return her kiss, but a wild panic was beginning to set in and took over every other thought and feeling Kaye was experiencing. “Why are you still here?” Kaye heard herself say with a voice that was far too steady and collected for how she was currently feeling. A hard look formed in her steely blue eyes and she felt herself double down. She rose from the bed, grabbed a new cigarette, though the lighter only produced metallic clicks and no flame and she let out a frustrated groan, unlit cigarette between her teeth she threw the lighter in a corner. Fuck!

Why are you still here?

Djodie felt like the blood was draining from her face. What? What was happening? What did she mean, why are you still here?
"I-" She could barely speak, the headache not helping. What the fuck?

Then it hit her. Had she just intended to have a fling with her? Was that, at first, not the same intention Djodie had? At first, yes. But hadn't she made it clear that that changed later on?
And what was that call about?

Djodie's head felt like it was about to explode as Kaye pulled back from her, not answering Djodie's kiss. Kaye's expression cold and distant. Chaos formed inside her mind as she watched the woman light a cigaret as the lighter failed.
Suddenly aware of her lack of clothes, Djodie pulled the covers over her body as she was trying to process what the actual fuck was happening.
Tears formed in her eyes as she understood that she was no longer welcome. Had she done something wrong? Maybe that prickprince had been right after all. Maybe she was a burden and just should stay out of people's way.
Swallowing, a tear started rolling down her cheek as she grabbed her clothes that layed on the floor - realising the rest of them were still on the couch.
"I am sorry." She whispered, looking down, scared to even look at Kaye. "I'll just, I'll leave." her emotions breaking through her voice.
"Have I done something wrong?"

Kaye’s head snapped up. For a moment her mask almost slipped when she looked at Djodie, seeing the betrayal on her face, her insides turning cold as she saw the expressions cross across the other woman’s face. Confusion, betrayal, hurt. The unlit cigarette hung forgotten between her lips as a silent moment passed as she stood there like a fool, staring at the creature on her bed and wanting nothing more than to tell her to leave. Do not make this any harder than it should be. When Djodie adjusted her face and pulled the covers over herself, Kaye froze. That stung. Guilt settled into her stomach, gnawing at her. Wanting to answer the question in honest- but when Kaye glanced at her and saw the stray tear on her cheeck, she turned away and marched towards the bathroom.

“Just make sure you are gone when I come back.” Was all she said before she slammed the bathroom door shut and locked it. She turned on the faucet, hands gripping the porcelain edges of the sink, and hung her head. Headache getting worse and guilt festering inside her. See, this is what happens. This is why you never take them home. This is why you never let them get close. She wanted to scream. She wanted a drink.

Just make sure you are gone when I come back.

The words felt like a knife, stabbing into her. Not being able to hold back much longer, the red-haired girl broke as Kaye turned her back to her and marched to the bathroom.
Tears streamed down her face, and Djodie slammed her fists into the cover on the bed, muffled her cries in it. Worthless piece of shit. Get the hell out of there.
She forced herself to stand up, collected her clothes, trailed down the stairs to get her dress on, and threw her coat on her shoulders. As she stumbled, trying to get that damned heals back on, Djodie reached for her purse - not noticing it was slightly open.
Drying her eyes on the sleeves of her coat, she made her way out of the apartment.

Water rushed down the drain, the sound doing nothing to reign in Kaye’s raging thoughts. When she looked up at herself in the mirror she felt nauseous. Her eyeshadow and eyeliner had turned into faded rings around her eyes, her purple lipstick smeared and smudges, almost completely faded. No doubt the remains still all over Djodie’s body. Kaye cupped her hands under the water and splashed it all over face, feeling cold drops trickle down her chin and past her neck- Her eyes flew open and landed on the hickey decorating her neck, the dark reddish mark a blemish on her pale skin.

The realization hit her all at once and before she could stop herself she had already turned around, jingling with the lock before the bathroom door flung open. Djodie was gone, covers in a sad mess, bed empty. Her bare feet drummed on the linoleum as she ran towards the stairs. Djodie’s dress was gone as was her bra top. Kaye descended with a frenzied madness, stopping at the bottom of the stairs to turn around and look at the door, eyes scanning the table, the chairs. It was all gone, save for the flowery perfume that clung to the stale air under the loft. Djodie's purse and coat were gone. Her purse .. where Kaye had slipped a note in with her number, on it, a purple kiss pressed in the corner.

END
