She had never been to the Harmony Festival before as far as she knew. So when she had mentioned it to Ming he had offered to come with her. She knew it would be more fun if they were with the two of them than if she would have had to go alone. And unlike the Christmas market, she wouldn't be looking purely for food now. She would definitely be able to enjoy herself more or at least she hoped so.

She had left Noir home, deciding that if it was too crowded she didn't want the Umbreon to be uncomfortable. So she had made her way on her own to the festival, currently waiting at the place she had agreed upon with Ming. She watched the people around her, noticing some of their stares, but she had gotten used to it. She was just glad that none of them were coming over for now, trying to make any comment about how she looked.

HYPOCRITE

Míngzé couldn’t help but feel like it was somehow wrong to accompany her to an event like this. There was nothing wrong with it of course, but there was one factor that made it a bit awkward. A lot of people here were simply friends having a good time, but others were together-together. If it had not been for Xīyuàn’s comments he would not have bat an eye. A sigh rolled over his lips as he rubbed his eyes. It would be fine.

When he was at his destination, he looked around for a moment. There were so many people which made it completely impossible for him to find her. Míngzé simply waited with his cane in one hand and a simple beanie in the other. He was not sure if like the idea of hiding her appearance, but with so many people around it might be a good idea. She would draw too much attention otherwise. For now he stood there and waited.

She was scanning the crowd, looking for him, knowing that she would need to approach him, since it would be hard for him to find her. So the moment she spotted him, she left the place she was currently waiting at and walked over. "Ming, you have come." She greeted him, hoping she didn't startle him too much.

She had heard about all kinds of activities that were happening at the festival and she kind of wanted to go to all of them, but she had no idea whether Ming would be willing to do so. She would already be happy if he just wanted to spend a little time with her. "Where shall we go first?" She asked him, maybe he had a preference. Though she would like to get at least one of those bears. They had seemed interesting and it would add to the bears she had found during that accident and of course the plushy she had found under the bridge.

All he could do really was wait. There were too many people for him to find a specific one, even when she looked different from anyone else. Softly Míngzé tapped his cane while he waited until a familiar voice sounded. He turned around and indeed saw her way smaller figure. “I did promise I would show you around,” he said with a smile. Normally he did not like going to this festival as he preferred to avoid everything during this month, but now he was making an exception.

“Not a clue, it’s been a while since I’ve been here myself.” Not forgetting that some things were different each year. But he had nowhere to be, so they had enough time to look around. “I would suggest going around and seeing where we end up first.” That was probably the easiest way if they did not want to skip anything. With him being there they would need to take their time anyway, especially with such a crowd. All he could hope for was that he was not too much of a burden. Perhaps he should’ve asked Xīyuàn to take her here, but it was too late now.

She was grateful that he wanted to come with her. Yes, she could have asked Yuan to come with her, but it just seemed like it would be more fun with Ming. She felt more comfortable with him too than Yuan, but that wasn't strange. She had known Ming longer than she had known Yuan and they weren't exactly the same when it came down to personalities. She looked at one of his hands, where he was holding something, a beanie? "Did you bring something with you?" She decided to ask, maybe he had just taken it off since it had been too warm.

She looked around when he mentioned that he didn't have a clue of where to go first. Maybe she could find something or just as Ming suggested they should just go around and see what came upon their path. She didn't mind that, it meant that they could take their time looking around, which was most likely better for Ming too. "Alright, let's go that way." She said and nudged him to go in a certain direction. She would make sure to stick close to him, since with this crowd he might lose her otherwise. An idea came to mind, though she didn't know whether he would mind or not. "If it is too hard to walk around like this, we could just link arms or hold hands or something like that?" That way they wouldn't get separated that easily. Though she could understand if he didn't want to do so. She wasn't oblivious to what this event was mostly meant to be, but she just wanted to have some fun and didn't mind it herself.

Míngzé had so much on his mind, that he completely forgot about the beanie he brought with him. When Lucina inquired about it, he was confused at first, until he understood what she meant. “Oh, right, this thing.” He handed her the beanie. “I’m not sure if it will fit, but the idea is to cover your ears,” he said a bit uncomfortably. It was not that she had to hide who she was, but it felt safer.

There was a hint of guilt within him, because he was here to show her around, but in reality it was the other way around. They started walking and Míngzé used his cane to make sure he would not trip over something unexpected. “It’s easiest for me if I can hold your upper arm, makes it easier to follow,” Míngzé explained with a forced smile. Holding hands was something you only did in other situations, but he assumed she did not realize that just yet.

“If it becomes too much, just let me know and we can come back another day to see the rest.” Míngzé knew very well that it was tiring for the other party to go to an event like this with him. They were not only here to enjoy the festivities, but were also acting as his eyes. Míngzé would totally understand it if things became too much.

He held out his hand, wanting to grab Lucina’s arm, but since their first meeting he couldn’t help but be extra careful. His hand simply hovered in the air near her, waiting for her to guide him. What was positive about him being here with his cane, was that people would move aside and give them room. Not everyone, but many did.

The beanie was for her, that surprised her. She hadn't thought that he would bring something for her with him. " Thanks, that would help." She told him and took the beanie from him, placing it on her head and over her ears. It would hopefully help with all the stares and make sure that people weren't constantly looking at them. It would give them a little bit more privacy, though everyone would still be able to see them.

She had given him a few options to make it easier for them to walk around. She had noticed that most people were avoiding them because of the cane, but it was no guarantee that it would stay like that. It would be easier for her to help Ming if they had some form of physical contact. She took his hand in her own, and placed it on her upper arm, guiding him through the festival and the crowd.

She wasn't planning on going home, just because he thought she would think it too much trouble to guide him like this. She wouldn't do that to him, not if he didn't want to leave yet. "Don't worry. Just let me know when you want to take a break or want to go home." She wasn't going to keep him here if he didn't want to, but she liked to spend time with him like this. Though it was something she wouldn't say out loud, afraid she might burden him more with it. She just hoped that accompanying her here wouldn't be too much of a burden on him. "Thank you for coming here with me." she felt the need to say those words as they walked past a few stalls. There were all kinds of things, but she was specifically looking for the bears, hoping to find one that would be perfect for her and maybe one for Ming too if he wanted one.

HYPOCRITE
of DARKNESS SHOWS ITS FACE, LIKE A NIGHTMARE, AGAIN, THIS REPETITIVE PATTERN

Míngzé was not sure if the beanie was a good idea, but it was a last minute idea when he left his home earlier today. He had taken the first one he could find, and for some reason it had been a pink one. “I hope it’s not too uncomfortable.” Having your ears squeezed against your head did not sound like a pleasant feeling.

With her help his hand ended up on her arm, which made it instantly easier to stay close. She reassured him not to worry, but he could not help it.  “I will, but only if you do too.” They had to walk slower, more careful, and would need more time at stalls if they wanted to look at something. From experience he knew it was not to be underestimated. “We can get something to eat eventually,” Míngzé offered. That was always a good idea if someone needed a break.

This was why he used to have Qiān with him. He would look out for him and make sure he got from point a to point be with ease. Sure, the pokémon could not speak so asking what there was to see was out of the question. Now all of it fell on Lucina’s shoulders, someone who knew nothing about the world. How could he not feel guilty? The question burned on his tongue. Míngzé wanted to ask her what she saw, but he did not. There was not much his eyes could perceive. Because there were so many people, they all blended together and the stalls weren’t any better. Instead he tried to focus his attention on Lucina.

“No need to thank me, it’s what friends do.” There was a genuine smile on his lips. No matter the dull world around him, Míngzé looked around. He could hear there was so much going on around them. The idea that people were openly showing off their affinities made him uncomfortable.

“Is there something you really like to do first?” After all, he was here because she wanted to come. “There should be a lot of performances that are worth seeing.” If that was something she liked to do, he would join her. No matter what, it felt right to walk around here and gave a certain peacefulness.

The beanie was not something she was used to and the pink color was something else than the clothes she was currently wearing, but she didn't mind. If she minded how people would think of her she would have done something about it a long time ago. Is there was anything that was a little uncomfortable about her outfit, it would be the heels. Yes, they made her taller and she had practiced with them, so that she wouldn't fall, but they still weren't as easy to walk on as just her bare feet. "No, it's fine." She told him reassuringly.

She smiled when he agreed to tell her when he was tired if she would do the same. She knew that it was a good idea to take a break somewhere to get some food. "Alright, getting something to eat later doesn't sound like a bad idea." She admitted.

The word friends brought a smile onto her face. It was something she had thought, but never spoken out loud, so hearing it from Ming made her feel a little happy. That even without her being able to tell him anything about her past, he now considered her a friend.

The moment he asked if there was something she would like to do first, she knew what she wanted to do. "I heard they sell some bears here." She started. "I would like to get one of those." Then she could add it to the rest. She looked ahead and saw a stall that seemed to be selling bears. "It seems to be over there." She told him. "Every bit of the stall is covered with those bears, so I don't think I am wrong." At least she hoped that she wasn't wrong.

Lucina reassured him that the beanie was fine and he could only hope that it really was. It was always like this for him, hoping people told him the truth because he could not pick up on any other signs. The best thing he could do was not think about how often people might have lied to him.

Calmly they made their way around the festival. There was enough going on that did not completely involve seeing, making it also an enjoyable experience for him. He loosely held onto Lucina’s arm, simply following. Míngzé had anticipated this to be overwhelming, especially for him, but surprisingly found it manageable, regardless of the amount of stimuli.

“What? You mean those harmony bears?” Míngzé remembered his last encounter with them and how pokémon had jumped out of them. He could not help his faint distrust in them. What if more pokémon inhabited these ones as well? Míngzé held back a sigh. If they were selling them now, surely that meant they were free of anything and were toys once more. “You know, there was a small accident with them a few days ago.” As they were no longer living together, he did not know how much Lucina knew about that incident. As he followed he simply told himself they were fine now. They had to be.

She hadn't been close to this many people often, especially not without them trying to avoid her constantly, though this time they seemed to keep their distance because of Ming's cane and not because of her. If anyone stared for too long, she glared slightly at them. Why was it always interesting to look at people who were different? She would never understand that.

As they got closer to the stand with the bears, Ming made a comment about the accident that had happened a few days ago. It was one she had experienced herself too and could understand that he would be a bit apprehensive about the bears, especially if they were going to move around by themselves again. "I don't see these bears moving, so I think it they're not the same as the ones from a few days ago." Yes, she had been there too and had even taken the chance to take a few bears home, though mostly the ones that weren't moving around, she hadn't felt like taking one that had the pokemon inside. She didn't even understand what kind of pokemon it was. "I was there too, though I didn't see you." It was quite a chaos, so it didn't surprise her that there had been people she knew.

They were nearing the stand when she noticed a familiar person in the crowd. She stiffened a little and was quite sure that Ming would be able to tell. She remembered how she had threatened that man the last time they had spoken and the anger she had felt in that moment. And here she was, unintentionally keeping her word. However she was with Ming now, he wouldn't understand if she were to suddenly leave him behind now to go and be angry at Perry. It wasn't even a side of her that she wanted him to see, a side that might turn people away from her and she didn't know if she could handle it if Ming decided to keep away from her. She didn't even want to imagine that.

So there really was only one thing she should be doing and that was ignore Perry, for now. She turned her back on the man and towards the stand, looking through the bears. She hadn't expected there to be so many types of bears, how was she supposed to chose the right one from this? "I didn't know there would be this many bears." Yes, she had seen the accident, but a stall was a bit different than whatever had been transporting those bears.

HYPOCRITE
of DARKNESS SHOWS ITS FACE, LIKE A NIGHTMARE, AGAIN, THIS REPETITIVE PATTERN

Back then it had scared Míngzé for a moment, but only because he had no idea what was going on. First there was the crash, and then people started panicking. Of course he was freaking out too. The explanation about walking teddy bears was something he had not believed at first, because it sounded absurd. After learning they were inhabited by pokémon, it made much more sense. “That is comforting,” he said with a smile. “You too?” Slowly he shook his head. “It was crazy, there was so much panic and chaos, all because of some new kind of pokémon.”

There was a change in Lucina. A concerned look was on his face as Míngzé turned his head towards her. It all made sense really. In a way she was new to the world and this was probably the first time she was among this many people. If she felt nervous around here, he would not blame her. “Are you alright?” he decided to ask even though she continued on and brought him towards the stall with all the Harmony Bears. If she already reacted like this it was probably a good idea if they left early.

His worried gaze was still resting on her and he had to force himself to turn his attention towards the bears. All he saw were the colorful lights that the owner used as decoration. They were very pretty, casting a colorful glow over the whole stall.

For a moment Míngzé let go of her. As he reached for one of the bears, he paused abruptly, his hand hovering over a teddy bear. This was— strange. He clenched his jaw, but instead of pulling his hand away as he intended to, he let his hand wander and grabbed another one. “There really are a lot of them,” he mused softly as he now had this bear in his hand. Somehow this felt right, which only concerned him more. He held the plushie in front of him, looking at the thing. Vaguely he saw the more purple coloration and he could feel a soft sting in his chest.

She had seen the bears moving herself, even the ones that seemed to be trying to escape while using the darker alleys. It had been a strange sight, though she couldn't understand why people had been panicking about it. "I did see the pokemon, though I have no idea what it was. I don't know that much about pokemon honestly." Which might be because of her memories or she had just never known much about them. But she was slowly learning and she at least knew what kind of typing her Umbreon was now.

She couldn't help the change in her behavior, she hadn't expected the anger to be boiling somewhere inside her still, but here it was, making it's appearance. Yet, she tried to push it down, this was not for today, not like this. "Just saw something unpleasant." She told Ming when he seemed to be worried about her. It was good to know that he cared, but she wasn't going to drag him down with her when she felt those emotions. He didn't deserve that, he deserved better. So she did her best to push those feelings down and to turn towards the bears.

She looked over the bears one by one, noticing all the different colors. Her gaze stopped on one with black coloration, it was somehow catching her attention, though she didn't understand why. She grabbed the bear and felt the softness of it in her hands. She didn't understand why it was this bear that seemed to connect with her, but her choice had been made. "I would like this one." She looked over at Ming and saw that he had another bear in his hands, this one had some purple colors, different than her own.

HYPOCRITE
of DARKNESS SHOWS ITS FACE, LIKE A NIGHTMARE, AGAIN, THIS REPETITIVE PATTERN

“They’re calling them Minette if I’m not mistaken, it’s a newly discovered pokémon, unique to this region.” Or did he remember wrong and was it called something else? Míngzé was not sure. “I also only know the basic stuff, but you can find a lot of information online.” That was probably the best place to start if she wanted to learn more. “The one you gifted me was apparently also not an eevee,” he said as he recalled his conversation with Sāng. A vulpix, that is what it was. So far he was still unable to even touch the pokémon, so he could not confirm it but he trusted Sāng.

Míngzé softly squeezed her arm in a reassuring gesture. He wanted her to know that she was not alone in this. It was impossible to comprehend how difficult it must be for her. “It’s normal, that’s just the way things are sometimes. Just try to ignore it.” He wondered what it was that caused this reaction, but if she did not tell him, he would not force her. Instead they had teddy bears to buy.

The sensation he got from this teddy bear was strange. Míngzé knew what it was and he could not help but feel uncomfortable by it. In the distant future, he might grow accustomed to it, but not at this moment. He lowered the bear again, but did not let go of it. Lucina had also chosen a bear and he couldn’t help but be curious. “Is there a specific reason you’re choosing that one?” Míngzé had to know. She was such a weird phenomenon and he knew barely anything about her. What if her whole appearance was connected to an affinity?

Minette, yes, she thought she had heard that name, though she hadn't taken the time to discover more about the pokemon. She hadn't even taken one home with her for as far as she knew, so she hadn't thought that the information was important. She had just recently found out what it meant to search for information online and hadn't really dared to try much yet. But when it came to pokemon it might not be a bad idea to use. At the mention of the Eevee she was a little surprised. She had thought that the pokemon really was an Eevee, but apparently it was something else. "Oh, I didn't realise, sorry. What kind of pokemon is it then?" Then she would know it if she were to ever come across another pokemon like it.

She was grateful for his support, though she kept the real reason from him to protect him. It was better if he didn't know, even if she did sound selfish by doing this. Their attention had changed to the bears and Ming asked her why she had chosen the bear. It was hard to put into words if she was honest. It was like it was resonating with something in her soul and she just didn't understand how or why it was like that. "How to put it." She started while looking from the bear in her hands to all the others. "It's like there's a connection or something." It was strange, this was not something she had expected to feel from a bear.

It did not really matter that she’d made a mistake, it had been an accident. “Apparently a vulpix. They are supposed to be red, but I suppose this is one of those traited pokémon.” There were so many different colors that it was impossible to keep track of all of them. “She still does not really like me,” Míngzé said with a soft sigh. During Lucina’s stay, Wěi had gone to Lucina multiple times, always asking for her attention. All Míngzé was good for was feeding her. She would bite or scratch him if he tried to touch her.

Míngzé looked at Lucina with his eyes slightly narrowed. This did not prove his theory, but it was more proof that he might be right. If she felt a connection too, then perhaps she was one of them. “Right,” Míngzé said thoughtfully. He shifted his focus to the teddy bear in his hands, pondering the strange connection he felt. No matter his own progress towards acceptance, he couldn’t help his disdain. Things like this only served as a reminder.

The owner of the stall noticed that they both had made their choice. For a moment, he contemplated returning the teddy bear instead of purchasing it, but ultimately couldn't bring himself to do so. After Míngzé asked how much it was for both plushies, he grabbed his wallet and settled the payment with the man. “Do you still have the old one you found on the streets?” Maybe this one could work as a replacement. No matter how often she would wash it, he still found the idea of bringing home an old, stinky plushie repulsive.

She really didn't know as much about pokemon as she thought. She had never seen what a Vulpix or Eevee was like before, so it didn't surprise her that she had been rong and that the pokemon she had gifted Ming was actually a Vulpix. She would need to make a mental note on that, so that next time she would know that it was a Vulpix. At the mention of the fact that the pokemon still didn't really like Ming she frowned. She had hoped that the two of them would grow closer over time, but that didn't seem the case yet. "I had hoped that she would have warmed up to you." But maybe it just needed more time. The Vulpix had seemed happy enough around her, so it was most likely just a matter of time.

She really couldn't tell what it was that attracted her to this bear. She didn't know what it meant and even if she had an inkling about it, she didn't want to think about that possibility. That it might have something to do with the power she had used in that alley. It would ruin this, so that wasn't anything that she wanted to consider. "Is there a reason why you chose yours?" She asked him, maybe that would help her define what had made her choose this bear. She didn't even understand herself sometimes, let alone what a feeling like this would mean.

Ming decided to pay for both of their bears and somehow that gave her a warm feeling. Even if she had wanted to buy the bear on her own, it still wasn't with her own money. Everything was borrowed in her eyes and that did make it harder to just spend it. At the mention of the old bear she had found on the birdge, she thought back to the room that was now hers, where the bear was sitting with some of the others she had found during the crash. Of course she hadn't thrown it out, she just didn't feel comfortable with doing that. "Yes, it is sitting on a shelf in my room now." No longer in her bed, but if she wanted to she could easily take it off of the shelf. "I couldn't throw it out." Not when it felt like the first thing she had ever possessed.

She put the bear in one of her hands, holding it tightly enough that it wouldn't drop. "Shall we to the next thing?" She asked him. There were still a lot more things that they could do here. "Should I carry your bear too? It might make it easier for you to move around." Since he already had a cane and if he wanted to hold onto her too, it would be a bit hard to carry the bear too, though she wouldn't force him, she just wanted to help him where she could.

HYPOCRITE
of DARKNESS SHOWS ITS FACE, LIKE A NIGHTMARE, AGAIN, THIS REPETITIVE PATTERN

They were making progress, he and Wěi. The pokémon no longer tried to escape or run away from him, but that was probably mostly because she liked a warm room and a soft bed. “Maybe she needs more time. We don’t know what she’s gone through before you found her.” From what he learned, she was not made to live on the streets, but she was also not able to tell him exactly what had happened and how she ended up there.

This whole festival had something to do with affinities, that was undeniable and one of the reasons he wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Lucina. These bears too had something to do with them, which made him curious about the bear lucina’s chosen. Míngzé looked at his bear with a troubled look. For a moment he thought about lying, but that would only do more harm than good. “I guess it’s the same for me,” he said with a sigh. However, it made sense that she kept the old plushie, as it was everything he had. “I understand,” he said and truly meant it. Having something of your own was nice.

During times like these he really needed a third arm. Yet he shook his head. She was already helping him enough, he didn’t need her carrying his stuff too. “No need,” he assured Lucina. Míngzé opened his jacket a bit and pushed the teddy bear inside, that way it was only poking out of it with its head. A part of him was uncomfortable by the mere fact that it was this close to him, but it was better than the alternative. Míngzé turned towards Lucina. “It probably looks stupid, but it works,” he said with an awkward smile.

With this settled, he held out his hand again. “Let’s go.” There was still a lot to see and do. They’ll just have to see what comes next on their path.

Lucina RothEnhanced Affinity
She didn't have any idea about what could have happened to the Vulpix either before she found her together with her Umbreon. Though she did doubt a little now that her own pokemon was an Umbreon. What if she had made a mistake with that too? She should look it up later. Now that she had a phone, she should learn to look up things like this herself. Though she still found it quite complicated to use, sending messages was something she could now, but just the typing itself was still going so slow, since she had no clue where all the letters were exactly. She had been a little surprised that she was able to read and write like normal people, but she had most likely learned it before losing her memories and not forgotten it somehow.

He answered that it was the same for him, that he felt some kind of connection to the bear too most likely. She just didn't understand how or why, but the expression on Ming's face told her that it was better to not ask too many questions about it. She didn't understand why he seemed troubled by it, if she had known what connection an affinity to all this had or even knew exactly what affinities were she might have had a clue, but not now. Not without all that knowledge. So she decided to leave it and to not ask about it. "Maybe we will find out what it means one day." She decided to say in the end. She wasn't going to push him if he didn't feel comfortable about it.

She wouldn't mind carrying his stuff, but Ming seemed to have another idea. She watched as he opened his jacket a little, put the bear inside till only the head was poking out. Ming clearly thought it would look stupid, but that wasn't the case at all. It looked cute, really cute actually. "Actually, it looks cute." The moment she realised she had said those words out loud, she felt her cheeks grow warm and she was quite sure she was blushing. For once she was glad that Ming wouldn't be able to see this.

By grabbing his hand when it was offered and placing it on her arm again, she hoped that he wouldn't ask anything about it. Yes, she had given him a compliment and yes, the realisation had spread a certain warmth through her, but it was something that she was going to keep to herself. It was better that way, she shouldn't burden Ming with that. "Should we get something to eat now or do you want to try something else first?" As long as it would distract her, it would be fine.

Míngzé had in fact come a long way since he first received his affinity. Back then he tried to fully ignore its existence, but the affinity itself had decided to force him to come to some sort of acceptance. That did not mean he had to like it. These feelings still scared him. First it was nothing more than a presence, as if someone else was there, while in fact he was alone. Now however, it has gotten worse. As if his own feelings were not enough, he could sense those of others. But not just any one. Not the living.

“Yeah.” It felt wrong to keep this from Lucina. Not because he did not want to help her, but it was too difficult for him. Maybe some other time he would be ready to explain it to her without his own judgment clouding the explanation.

The plushie was safely secure in his jacket, the head poking out. Míngzé had no way of knowing what it looked like, but he was a full grown man, walking around with a bear peeking out of his jacket. It must be— wait what? Míngzé blinked a few times, before a chuckle escaped. “Not how I would describe it, but sure, cute it is,” he said with amusement, not noticing how she reacted to her own words.

Lucina suggested getting something to eat, which was fine by him. Míngzé gave her a short nod in response. “Anything that catches your eye?” He was not picky when it came to food, so she could chose whatever she wanted. Only no fries, everything else was fine.
